Announcing our Fall 2024 Grant Opportunity!

The School Nurses of California Foundation (SNOCF) is offering a grant opportunity for 2024-2025. The grant may be project- or research-based and must focus on strategies that support the efforts of school nurses. The selected grantee(s) may choose to create a project or plan research that aligns with our current focus (see below). This grant funding is open to any school nurse currently employed by a California school/district. Depending upon the quality and number of proposals, and their submitted budgets, SNOCF may select to award a single grant of $2000, or up to four $500 grants.  The grantee(s) are expected to submit a midterm update and a final grant report (*see addendum for example) and to support school nursing by sharing their project/research outcomes through the SNOCF website or other statewide outlets approved by SNOCF.

*Accepting Applications between October 1 – November 9, 2024*

Current Focus: To enhance school nurse visibility, promote school nurse achievements, emphasize collaboration or collaborative partnerships, and/or support school nurse data collection.

Our Mission Statement: The School Nurses of California Foundation (SNOCF) supports the work of school nurses through partnerships and programs that improve student well-being and academic success within California schools and communities.

Our Vision: California students and school communities have the resources to live healthy, successful lives.

Examples of projects or research for SNOCF’s Fall 2023 Grant Funding Cycle:

  • District or county-wide school nurse recruitment efforts that may be replicated by other districts or counties
  • Methods for collecting health data from School Information Systems (SIS) that helps districts collect National School of Nursing’s (NASN) “Every Student Counts” data
  • New/improved school/district year-end report templates that can be adopted by other schools/districts
  • School nurse communication tools (newsletters, web-pages, handouts, etc) that may be adopted by other schools/districts
  • An advocacy plan to promote school nurse roles and/or increase school nurse numbers
  • A collaborative partnership supporting school nurse activities (e.g., with a district partner or local agencies, funders, programs)
  • Data supporting the best use of school nurse time in schools
  • Research, data, or case studies supporting the importance of school nursing
  • Creation and implementation of effective partnership programs with local community organizations/resources to assist schools and families dealing with challenges in getting children back in school consistently.
  • Tools and/or resources for orientation, mentorship, and/or retention of new and continuing school nurses

* Grants will be awarded through a competitive scoring/ranking procedure. All applications will be read unidentified and rated by a review committee that will then recommend to the Board of Directors up to four applications to receive grant awards. The application period will open October 1, 2024, and will close at midnight on November 9, 2024. SNOCF reserves the right to award fewer or no grant awards if fewer or no applications meet minimum scoring criteria as determined by the review committee. The decision of the BOD shall be final.

* The period for grant completion will be January 1, 2025 through December 31, 2025. Grantees will be expected to submit a mid-term progress report (due on or before May 1, 2025) and final grant report (due on or before January 1, 2026).
