About Central Coast Section

President's Welcome

Welcome fellow CSNO school nurses! As your local CSNO section, we are here to help provide support, resources, and provide opportunities to come together as School Nurses on the Central Coast. Our section was just recently born in 2019 to provide a network and forum for the school nurses in our area, many of whom work for small districts without the support of many, or any, other school nurses.

It is an honor to be serving as the Section President in 2021-2023. Early on in my career, I established my love for this advanced specialty. I have always been very active and passionate about my role as a school nurse and find tremendous joy in serving the children and families of this community. Fast forward to the 2019-2020 school year and nursing as a profession has become more essential, valued, and as heroic as ever. We have had to dig deep within to find strength in these darkest of times and I know that together, we will heal, we will overcome, and we will rise.

I invite you to join us and get involved. On behalf of our board members, I can say that  we have all found the rewards in being part of a strong local, as well as statewide, network and force. Please visit our Leadership Tab to check out our open positions. If you have a passion project of your own or just want to help, we would love to have you volunteer whatever time you would like to invest with our section.

Also please be sure to check out our events calendar for our state and section conferences and meetings. We hope to organize some fun section events so stay tuned! I look forward to spending time with you all as I know that you give me inspiration. I am so excited for what we will accomplish together. Let’s do this!

About Central Coast Section

In 2018, at the 69th Annual CSNO State Conference Business Meeting, which was held in Monterey, CA, eleven school nurses stood in unity requesting the formulation of a new CSNO Section in and around the central coast of California. Citing geographical isolation and lack of professional learning opportunities, these school nurses believe they would be better served as an independent section within CSNO. The CSNO State Bylaws state: "Sections 5.22 (a) CSNO shall have at least two sections. The sections of CSNO are Bay Coast, Central Valley, Northern, San Diego/Imperial and the Southern section. The sections are developed to meet the regional professional learning needs of school nurses within their areas. (b) The CSNO State Board will have ultimate authority and discretion in creating sections.(c) Sections may be created in geographic locations as the need arises. A motion, second and vote was made for the CSNO State Board to explore the possibility of a new section.  A motion, second and vote was made to provide $1,500 of seed money if a new section is formed.  Over the next several months, the CSNO State Board took measures to assess the interest of a new section. On June 21, 2018, a survey disseminated to CSNO members in Monterey, Kern, Kings,  San Luis  Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties.  Survey results returned with overwhelmingly supporting the formation of a new section, the counties to be included in the section, the name of the section and officers to represent the section.  Officers for the section, were installed at CSNO Leadership in August of 2019.
